According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol and local news outlets, Carter was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban on the northbound Interstate 35 exit ramp toward 75th Street at approximately 10 a.m. Monday. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail about 200 feet south of 75th Street.

The SUV continued across the 75th Street intersection, where it struck several raised medians before coming to rest in a ditch on the northeast side of the intersection. Carter was the only person inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews, including firefighters, law enforcement officers and Johnson County Med-Act paramedics, responded to the scene. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Carter was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Some emergency radio traffic reviewed by local reporters indicated that responders considered the possibility that Carter may have experienced a medical emergency. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed that a medical emergency caused the crash, and the official crash information does not establish it as the cause.

The collision temporarily closed the northbound I-35 entrance ramp from 75th Street while investigators examined the scene. The ramp was reopened before 1 p.m. after the investigation was completed.

Carter’s sudden death has brought sadness to Olathe and the wider Johnson County community. At 52, her passing represents a significant loss for her family, friends and others who knew her.

Publicly available reports confirm Carter’s identity, age, Olathe residence and involvement in the fatal crash. Additional personal information, including funeral arrangements and a detailed obituary from her family, has not been independently confirmed in the available reporting.

Carter should not be confused with British novelist Angela Carter, author of The Bloody Chamber, who died in 1992. The Olathe woman involved in the October 2026 crash was a different person.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing. As Carter’s loved ones cope with her unexpected passing, condolences go out to her family, friends and everyone affected by her loss.
