Accident on 5 North Freeway Today – Major Crash Causes Traffic Delays Near Hamilton

A 32-year-old woman has died following a serious head-on collision on Highway 5 near Hamilton, Ontario, that also left a two-year-old boy critically injured and caused major traffic disruptions.

The crash happened Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026, on Highway 5 just east of Highway 8 in the Flamborough area. Ontario Provincial Police said emergency crews were called shortly after 7 a.m. after a pickup truck and a minivan collided head-on.

The woman was travelling as a passenger in the minivan and was pronounced dead at the scene. A two-year-old boy who was also inside the minivan suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local children’s hospital for treatment.

According to police, the westbound pickup truck was driven by a 20-year-old man from Millgrove, while the eastbound minivan was operated by a 35-year-old man from Cambridge. Both drivers survived the crash and were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Highway 5 was subsequently closed between the Highway 8/Peter’s Corners area and Middletown Road while police and collision investigators examined the scene. The closure affected both directions and resulted in significant delays for motorists.

The Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, technical collision investigators and reconstruction specialists assisted with the investigation. Police said the examination was extensive because of the severity of the collision.

The identity of the woman who died has not been publicly released. Authorities have also not identified the other people involved. Charges remain pending as investigators work to determine what led to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, stopped at the scene or has dashcam footage is being asked to contact Ontario Provincial Police. Investigators are seeking information that could help establish the sequence of events before the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as police continue their work.
